to make, by a highly skilled artisan like Nyaaba Ayinpoka from Ghana. To make this fan, each piece of straw is hand split, dyed, and hand weaved together.
Nyaaba started weaving at the age of 17, and has been weaving for over thirty years now.
She says,
Each of these baskets are handcrafted with vetiver grass, which is rolled by hand and dyed to give it a vibrant hue. It takes seven days of hard work to create the finished product.
Alebipoorum has mastered the art of weaving over 20 years. Through Fair Trade, Alebipoorum is able to save enough money in the rural bank, to ensure education for her children.
She loved seeing this photo so much that she asked our photographer for a physical copy for herself!
